Deter the Snowblower Thieves
Sharp increases in snowblower thefts are seen every year when the first snowstorms hit. This year is no exception say Milwaukee police who have reported an increase after the first snowfall of the winter.
One Milwaukee resident, Luis Torres locks up his snowblower by placing a chain through the handle and wheels and padlocking it to his porch! Two years ago his snowblower was stolen from outside his front door and he’s determined that his replacement, $300 dollar snowblower will not suffer the same fate.
Snowblowers are good targets for thieves say Milwaukee police as they are easy to easy to sell, and easy to load into a truck. A thief can easily sell a snowblower for a quick profit of $60 says Jesus Gloria a community liaison officer. Thieves are looking for easy targets he says so securing your snowblower will deter them. Milwaukee police recommend using a chain wrapped around the auger and securing to a wall or floor in the garage. Police also noted that leaving the garage door open is an invitation for the snowblower thieves!
