One of several motors I received my from my Uncle Clarence in Northern Maine, this first video is a “see if it will run video”…and it did?…watch and find out.

and about 50 pulls was right.

Also quickly seen are the 1927 maytag engine, 1952 David Bradley Chain saw, 1970’s Craftsman Chain saw, and a 10HP Tecumseh vertical shaft motor for my old beatup Murry garbage pick tractor.

If the Tecumseh winter engines get fuel they fire over in a couple pulls it seems.
Does your 8HP Snapper seem to spit fuel and it leak out of the carb throat onto the floor when you prime it over 3 times?

Yeah…the 6 HP lawn mower Tecumseh also had carb problems…I think fundamentally they’re ok, they’ve just gotten a bit cheap in various areas. This is probably why so many of them are free…if you can do a bit of work on them, they’re fine…but most people don’t bother.

not a fan of Tecumseh, but ill be damned. they just all have crappy carbs, nothing wrong with the engines themselves though.

Good luck with this engine. Remember, if the engine can run, it can be fixed. I think your doing a good job here going through the problems systematicly. Thanks for sharing

    Peace :)

Yeah…part of what I edited out because it was boring, was a side by side comparison…our 8 HP has a primer too. It made it easy to figure out this one (because of the rust where the primer ball should be) had one at one point, but it was removed. A carburetor changed must have happened, since there are no longer provision for one.

huh ours has a primer? maybe someone swapped out the carb on it? the carbs are universal to most of the lawson made engines, as far as i know all the carbs look the same. my clinton and all my tecumsehs even some kohlers i have all use what appers to be the same basic carb, but kohler is not lawson made of course.

we have the exact same tecumseh 10hp on our bolens snowblower. they are probably the most widley used engine on snowblowers!
